I’ve been writing and self-publishing for two decades! But when I began, self-publishing meant an entirely different thing — it was done with a copier, and then a copier and a comb binder. I’ve printed and sold hundreds of copies of my books that way…
…And then, in recent years, I looked into “Vanity Publishing” — where I could spend thousands of dollars to have thousands of copies of my book printed at once…But, that didn’t seem practical or affordable, so I continued with what I knew…
…Until 2011, when my self-publishing took off in new and amazing directions, thanks to the power of the internet, and a newer, more affordable option of print-on-demand self publishing. Within months I was the proud author of dozens of paperback books and dozens of e-books…and a brand new chapter of self-publishing was being written for me.
Fortunately, I generally have no fear of jumping in with both feet, or figuring things out as I go along. But I have noticed that not everyone is wired that way. This book was written for those who want/need a gentle introduction to the world of self-publishing…For those who want to have a book with their name on the cover, but are afraid to begin, or don’t know where to begin. I don’t answer all the questions you might have here, but I try to give you enough to get you started!
I’ve also written several blog posts on the topics of writing and publishing:
